Removing Stained Etches & Restoring Marble

Marble can be stained by various household foods, liquids and other substances. But, when it comes to some marble stains, there is more to them than meets the eye. Marble is a porous material that can absorb liquids. Depending on the liquid, how the marble has been cared for previously and the the length of time the liquid has been in contact with your marble will impact the amount of work and patience you will need to get your stone back to the fine luster and beauty it once had.

When you are dealing with marble, you have to consider that etching and staining are two different reactions and must be treated individually. Both processes are caused through absorption. But one involves the adding of color to your marble and the other involves the removal of a specific mineral from the marble. There are liquids that can both etch and stain marble because they both contain color and acid. When these liquids penetrate the marble, they deliver the stain causing color and the mineral eating acid at the same time by performing both processes when they are absorbed by the marble.

What Stains Can This Product Help With?

This kit will treat stains, etches or stained etches. How you treat the discoloring depends on what kind of a discoloration you are dealing with.

Rust stains are not the same as the stains above, they will require a different approach to counteract the effects of the rust. To remove a rust stain form your natural stone surface, we recommend using one of the following stone solutions:

Marble Specific Rust Removal

WARNING: Lustro Italiano Stone Sealer does not provide anti-etch protection on marble surfaces. Use of acidic substances such as wine, tomato, citrus, coffee, etc. will etch the surface by creating a chemical reaction with the calcium carbonate present in marbles. For etching problems please use Etch Remover.

We are sorry that your issue was not corrected by using our product. The kit that you purchased is designed for a very specific kind of issue. We encourage customers to test products in an inconspicuous area of the surface to verify the stone and the product are compatible. Additionally, we encourage customers to send photos of the stone and stain to us so a technician can help with a solution that is right for the specific stone.

Just out of curiosity, did you recently treat the stain?

3 of 5 Question about Consistency September 14, 2017
Reviewer: Lane Kidd from Washington, DC United States
Having never used the Etch Remover, I don't know if the jar I received is as consistent as it should be. It is watery, with a grain like substance, similar to sand in the bottom. Reading the instructions, it noted to add water to keep the consistency like toothpaste. The jar I received is watery, no need to add anything. Is this as the jar should be or defective?
*******************************************************************************
LUSTRO ITALIANO RESPONSE:
Lane,
Thank you for trying our etch remover. The consistency of the etch remover is something that can vary depending on a variety of environmental factors. Additionally, the consistency of the product can be adjusted in either direction, i.e. by adding water or by absorption. A very good explanation of it is mentioned in our demonstration video at about the 4:20 minute mark. Excess water will be absorbed in to rag or paper towel being used to rub the etch remover into the stone. The video can be viewed on the product page or on youtube at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLwnbdnVnmo

*******************************************************************************
